ANIMAL-RELATED

In 2012, Nebraska reported animal-related vehicle crashes:

  • 2,913 reported animal-related vehicle crashes, a decrease of 16.9% from the previous year.
  • 2,668 property damage animal-related vehicle crashes.
  • 290 injuries caused by animal-related vehicle crashes.
  • Three fatalities due to a deer/vehicle crash and the other two were cow/vehicle crashes.
  • The economic costs in 2012 for crashes involving animals was $33,126,600* (not each fatal crash), per nonfatal disabling injury (A) (not each injury crash), and per property damage crash (including minor injuries, B & C).
  • 92% of all the animal-related vehicle crashes were property damage only crashes.
