A recent study from a leading personal finance outlet, analyzed the enforcement rules in each of the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia across 15 key metrics to identify which states impose the harshest penalties on drunk drivers.

DUI Penalty in Nebraska (1=Strictest; 25=Avg.):

  • 4nd - Minimum Jail Time (1st offense)
  • 6th - Minimum Jail Time (2nd offense)
  • 3rd - How Long Old DUI Factor into Penalties
  • 9th - Administrative License Suspension
  • 4th - Minimum Fine (1st offense)
  • 13th - Minimum Fine (2nd offense)
  • 7th - Average Insurance Rate Increase After DUI

 About NOHS?

The Nebraska Department of Roads Highway Safety Office (NDOR-HSO) is responsible for developing and implementing effective strategies to reduce the state’s traffic-related injury and fatality rates.  These strategies may take the form of stand-alone projects, activities, and/or more comprehensive long-term programs.  Both traditional and innovative strategies are encouraged and utilized to support the NDOR-HSO targets.

The NDOR-HSO is responsible for the administration of the federal Highway Safety funds and for facilitating the Highway Safety Programs supported by these funds.

Any issue related to traffic safety may be considered under the role and responsibilities of the NDOR-HSO.  Personnel are available for providing resource information and referral to other appropriate agencies or organizations.

Based on problem identification results, the following priority traffic safety areas are being targeted. To address these problem areas; grants, training opportunities, and educational items are available (click on the links at the top of the page to view areas):
