Project Outline
Project Info Updated Sept 2010

Projects which are in progress will have basic construction info posted
on the 511 system at www.511.nebraska.gov

Proposed Construction: The existing 2-lane highway will be rebuilt and widened to a 4-lane divided highway on new alignment. Beginning in Gretna the additional lanes are added along the north side of the existing highway, before crossing over to the south side of the existing highway near 192nd Street and continues along the south side of the existing highway through the I-80 interchange.

Highway improvements also include reducing the grade of the highway, better sight distance, building flatter side slopes, improving roadway drainage, rebuilding the bridge at Wehrspan Lake, adding a continuous raised median with left-turn lanes and adding surfaced shoulders. In Gretna, segments of the existing roadways leading to and including the intersection of US-6 / N-31 / N-370 / Gruenther Road will be partially rebuilt to add additional lanes, add medians, improve turning radii and adding sidewalks at selected locations.

Lighting/Signals/Signing: Updating of overhead lighting and updating traffic signals will occur at selected locations.

Related Studies: A noise study has been performed and is available for review.

Right of Way: Acquisition of property for highway right-of-way will be required throughout the length of the project. The new right-of-way limits will accommodate future expansion of Nebraska 370 to six lanes. Control of access to the new highway will be acquired.

Phasing: Construction will be done under traffic. Temporary roads around work zones will be used during some phases of construction.

Schedule: The project has been advertised to let to contract on October 7, 2010.  The tentative start date for construction is April 4, 2011, though the contractor will be allowed to begin work on November 1, 2010 if the work does not interfere with existing traffic.  Construction is expected to be completed in September 2013.

Estimated Cost: Approximately $28,100,000.00 (2010 dollars).
